ALLAN TISSENBAUM RETURNS TO ELITE FORM

Allan Tissenbaum one of the best sprinter's in the world, has come back from injuries from the past two years, and is now getting back into true running form. He displayed his talents this past month in Sacramento at the Outdoor Nationals. Allan, now 50 won the 100 meters in 11.39 and the 200 meters in 23.63.

He joined his other Houston Elite members Marty Krulee, Greg Pizza and Rick Riddle to win the 4 X 100m relay in the age group 50 -59. See below for the results from the 2010 Outdoor Masters Nationals Track and Field Championship.

CHARLES ALLIE COMPLETES SPRINT TRIPLE AT NATIONALS

Charles Allie, one of the key members of the Houston Elite track club, once again put his one speed action into motion. He won all of his races in the 60-64 age group. Charles now 62 is running really well coming off a great indoor season. On Saturday night, July 24th at the Masters awards banquet he received his age group award for being one of the best athletes in 2009 for the age group 60 plus. Two other Houston Elite team mates also received awards, Phil Raschker (womens age group award 60 plus), Bill Collins (age group award 35-59).  Charles time for 100 meters 12.48, 200 meters 25.91, 400 meters 55.37.  Way to go!

JEAN AND RICK STANDOUT AT NATIONALS

Jean Vander-Cruyssen and Rick Riddle both had outstanding performances at the 2010 Masters Outdoor National Championships.  Jean got the show started with her big victory in the women's 60-64 Pentathlon, she won three out of the five events. This was by far one of her best Nationals ever, and we are all so very proud of her.

Rick has worked really hard this year, as he moved up from his normal 100 and 200 meter events to take on the 400 meters.  His goal was to first get under 58 seconds, which is outstanding in it's own right.  Rick ran a PR in the finals of the 400 taking 3rd in a time of 56.93, great job Rick, you worked hard for it!  Can you move on to 55 seconds?

The Houston Elite Team of Charles Allie (63) George Haywood (57) Bill Collins (59) and Horace Grant (57) set a new world record in the 55-59 age group in the mile relay with a time of 3:40.46.  The old record of 3:43.59 was set back in 2007 in Riccione, Italy, at the Outdoor World Championships by the British National master's team.  This feat shows how strong the club team of Hoston Elite is running, the combined ages average 59 years per runner. When the British team set their record they all had just turned 55 years of age that year.

Houston Elite later this year will see if they can lower that record because two athletes feel they can run better. Horace Grant who set the world indoor 800 meter record in a time of 2:07.05, was dealing with an inner ear infection, and feels he can run about a seoncd and a half better, George Haywood is coming off of hamstring and knee problems, he had not been able to train well this winter and feels he can run about two seconds better.  This team has been together now going on eight years, next year we will see two of the legs move to the sixty year age group, leaving two spots open for next year at Penn relays in the 50-59 age group, and we have some great talent coming up, so this group will not miss a beat.

George Haywood, a member of the Houston Elite track club, won his first ever world championship medal on Wednesday March 3rd 2010.  George took 3rd in the mens 55-59 age bracket in the 200m dash. It was an exciting race as George came off the final turn in 4th, putting on a late charge at the end, and great lean, which resulted in a fall at the tape, but it was all worth it as he was declared the 3rd place finish after review of the photo finsh.

We all are very proud of George, and wish him the very best in the rest of the meet, as he will be competing in the 400 meter dash finals on Saturday and as a member of the USA 4X200 meter relay team.

For most spectators the 400 Meters is their favorite invite to watch. One lap around the track at the fastest speed you can muster. Though a favorite of many, it is one of the hardest sprints to master. The Houston Elite fared well as Bill Collins took the Gold in the 400 meters (Age group 55-59) and Charles Allie took the Gold in the 400 (Age group-60-64). For both athletes, Bill and Charles, they pulled off the trifecta by taking Gold in the 100, 200 and 400. A memorable and worthy accomplishment. The World Games are finished and are a fitting end to outdoor competition in Track and Field for 2009.

Rick Riddle and Mark Hastings both continued to excel. Both athletes qualified for finals in all three of the short sprints–not in easy task at this competetive level.
